The Harriman Reservoir is situated in southern Vermont with its southern end
at the base of the Harriman Dam in Whitingham and its northern end at the Medburyville picnic area in Wilmington. The Walk runs along the trail on the west side of that reservoir and follows the roadbed of the former Hoosic Tunnel & WIlmington raillroad (nicknamed the "Hoot, Toot and Whistle" railroad). The trail is quite scenic and because it is mostly flat, it is suitable for all types of walkers.
There are two categories of walks. Those wishing to try to do the Half Marathon Walk will start at the dam at 8 a.m. and proceed north to a marked spot at 6.6 miles, and then return to finish at the dam for a distance of 13.2 miles. Those wishing to go a shorter distance of their own chosing, will enter the Open Walk. They will start at 10 a.m.and will proceed north from the dam, turning whe they feel like it, and return. Complimentary food and drinks will be served following your walk.
Each entering adult will be asked to have an entry fee of at least $40 which can be money pledged from sponsors or their own contribution. Children 12 - 18 will be asked to have $10 either in sponsor fees or their own contribution. Children under 12 walk for free. Prizes will be awarded for the three people bringing in the most money in sponsorships or entry fees.
Entry forms and sponsor sheets can be downloaded after the end of April from the website bestdamwalk.com or will be sent to you if you call Susan Spengler at 802-464-5872
